This manifesto makes the case for why leaders need to meditate. With light humor, references to both developmental psychology and neuro-psychology, I explain how meditation practice can add the missing element to any leadership development strategy.
The conventional approaches to developing leaders involve assessment, feedback, "stretch" assignments, and coaching.
These work well until leaders come to their "learning edge" - that place where the outer demands for change trigger the leader's inner lizard.
The presence of this inner lizard has been researched extensively since the 1950s. Seth Godin has recently brought it to popular awareness and suggests that we need to "figure out how to quiet the lizard".
Actually we don't. The good news is that it's already been figured out. There is a well researched methodology for quieting (and harnessing) the inner lizard. It's called meditation. While the data is in on the benefits of meditation - it hasn't been framed in a way that is compelling to leaders. This manifesto makes the case.
